HCG Diet in Brisbane

With obesity rates rising fast across the world there is an ever growing demand for simple and effective weight loss programs. Not surprisingly, there is no shortage of diet and exercise plans that promise quick results. But do any of them really work, or is it all just a clever marketing gimmick? Let’s find out!

scalesWhy most weight loss plans don’t work

There are many different reasons why diet plans fail to deliver results. Here are some of them:

  • No emphasis on changing your long term eating habits. Losing weight quickly is great, but if the diet doesn’t come with a set of instructions to help you maintain that new weight in the long term, what’s the use?
  • Some weight loss diets are too strict and prohibitive. Restricting entire food groups can cause serious food cravings and mental resistance, and if your diet does nothing to address this, it’s very likely that you won’t be able to stick to it for very long.
  • Sometimes a diet might deprive the body of necessary vitamins and minerals, leaving you depressed and exhausted. This can often be remedied by taking various vitamin supplements during the course of the diet.
  • Most intensive weight loss diets cut so much protein out of your regular eating plan that you end up losing lots of muscle mass in the process. This can be partly avoided by drinking lots of water and taking a lean protein supplement.
  • Eating very few calories makes metabolism rates go down, which results in faster weight gain once you go back to eating normal foods. Some diets (such as the HCG diet) aim to prevent this through use of various supplements.

As you can see, there are tons of reasons why many of the popular weight loss diets fail to deliver results.

Is the HCG diet any different?

Yes, because the HCG diet addresses all of the above concerns through a carefully designed diet and supplement plan:

  • HCG drops help to prevent hunger and reduce food cravings.
  • Taking HCG supplements helps to speed up metabolism.
  • While the HCG diet plan is very low calorie, it includes lots of vegetables and fruits which are packed with essential vitamins.
  • Loss of muscle mass is prevented by forcing the body to consume excess fat for energy.
  • The HCG diet comes with a weight maintenance plan to help you stay at a healthy weight once the initial diet is over.

As you can see, this particular diet has been carefully created to address the most common pitfalls of many other popular weight loss plans.

My truth of the day: Fad diets do work! So many times I’ve lost 30lbs in 30 days. However, because I didn’t change my lifestyle, I gained back 20+lbs the following 30 days! Lesson learned the hard way but never again!

Cancer prevention: 7 tips to reduce your risk
Concerned about CANCER PREVENTION ? Take charge by making changes such as eating a healthy diet and getting regular screenings.

You’ve probably heard conflicting reports about cancer prevention. Sometimes the specific cancer-prevention tip recommended in one study or news report is advised against in another.

In many cases, what is known about cancer prevention is still evolving. However, it’s well accepted that your chances of developing cancer are affected by the lifestyle choices you make.

So if you’re concerned about cancer prevention, take comfort in the fact that some simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Consider these seven cancer prevention tips.

    1. Don’t use tobacco

Using any type of tobacco puts you on a collision course with cancer. Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer — including cancer of the lung, bladder, cervix and kidney. And chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don’t use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke might increase your risk of lung cancer.

Avoiding tobacco — or deciding to stop using it — is one of the most important health decisions you can make. It’s also an important part of cancer prevention. If you need help quitting tobacco, ask your doctor about stop-smoking products and other strategies for quitting.

    2. Eat a healthy diet

Although making healthy selections at the grocery store and at mealtime can’t guarantee cancer prevention, it might help reduce your risk. Consider these guidelines:

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Base your diet on fruits, vegetables and other foods from plant sources — such as whole grains and beans.
Limit fat. Eat lighter and leaner by choosing fewer high-fat foods, particularly those from animal sources. High-fat diets tend to be higher in calories and might increase the risk of overweight or obesity — which can, in turn, increase cancer risk.
If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. The risk of various types of cancer — including cancer of the breast, colon, lung, kidney and liver — increases with the amount of alcohol you drink and the length of time you’ve been drinking regularly.
    3. Maintain a healthy weight and be physically active

Maintaining a healthy weight might lower the risk of various types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, prostate, lung, colon and kidney.

Physical activity counts, too. In addition to helping you control your weight, physical activity on its own might lower the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer.

Adults who participate in any amount of physical activity gain some health benefits. But for substantial health benefits, strive to get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic physical activity. You can also do a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. As a general goal, include at least 30 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine — and if you can do more, even better.

    4. Protect yourself from the sun

Skin cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer — and one of the most preventable. Try these tips:

Avoid midday sun. Stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are strongest.
Stay in the shade. When you’re outdoors, stay in the shade as much as possible. Sunglasses and a broad-rimmed hat help, too.
Cover exposed areas. Wear tightly woven, loosefitting clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible. Opt for bright or dark colors, which reflect more ultraviolet radiation than pastels or bleached cotton.
Don’t skimp on sunscreen. Use generous amounts of sunscreen when you’re outdoors, and reapply often.
Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps. These are just as damaging as natural sunlight.
    5. Get immunized

Cancer prevention includes protection from certain viral infections. Talk to your doctor about immunization against:

Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B can increase the risk of developing liver cancer. The hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for certain high-risk adults — such as adults who are sexually active but not in a mutually monogamous relationship, people with sexually transmitted infections, intravenous drug users, men who have sex with men, and health care or public safety workers who might be exposed to infected blood or body fluids.
Human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that can lead to cervical and other genital cancers as well as squamous cell cancers of the head and neck. The HPV vaccine is available to both men and women age 26 or younger who didn’t have the vaccine as adolescents.
    6. Avoid risky behaviors

Another effective cancer prevention tactic is to avoid risky behaviors that can lead to infections that, in turn, might increase the risk of cancer. For example:

Practice safe sex. Limit your number of sexual partners, and use a condom when you have sex. The more sexual partners you have in your lifetime, the more likely you are to contract a sexually transmitted infection — such as HIV or HPV. People who have HIV or AIDS have a higher risk of cancer of the anus, liver and lung. HPV is most often associated with cervical cancer, but it might also increase the risk of cancer of the anus, penis, throat, vulva and vagina.
Don’t share needles. Sharing needles with an infected drug user can lead to HIV, as well as hepatitis B and hepatitis C — which can increase the risk of liver cancer. If you’re concerned about drug abuse or addiction, seek professional help.
    7. Get regular medical care

Regular self-exams and screenings for various types of cancers — such as cancer of the skin, colon, prostate, cervix and breast — can increase your chances of discovering cancer early, when treatment is most likely to be successful. Ask your doctor about the best cancer screening schedule for you.

Take cancer prevention into your own hands, starting today. The rewards will last a lifetime.

The reasons for overeating tend to fall into the same areas for both women and men; however, to help men better understand specifically why they overeat, this article is going to look at those reasons from a “male-centric” point of view.

Men who overeat tend to do it in ways that are tied to other activities and behaviors, which means that most men do not realize they are overeating. To discover if you’re eating enough for a man twice your size, you need to examine these five eating patterns to determine when, and why, you overeat.overeat

    (1) Boredom
Eating is a visceral, cave man kind of “sensory activity,” and it charges up the senses. Maybe it’s time to find another way to charge up your senses – like a new hobby or interest.

    (2) Culture
Many cultures are all tangled up in social events in such a way that the event isn’t fully entertaining unless food is involved. Whether it’s popcorn at the movies, or beer and hot dogs at the game, most events for men do not involve healthy food. At times like this, when you feel the need to fit in, the best advice is moderation and self control.

    (3) Stress and Anxiety
Stress comes from many sources, and we all need a way to deal with it. Unfortunately, because eating gives you a feeling of control and power, many men deal with stress by eating. Then, combined with the sensory experience of taste and the comfort of a full stomach, they become less aware of the problems they wanted to avoid. It’s emotional eating, and it may sound like a problem more often experienced by women; however, many men also deal with stress by overeating. Realizing that stress is your overeating trigger will lead you to find new – and healthier – ways to deal with stress and anxiety.

    (4) Quitting an Addiction
In giving up an oral addiction (such as smoking or drinking), many people feel the need to keep their hands busy, and eating seems like a harmless solution. While overeating may feel like the lesser of two evils, there are better ways. Learn from men who improved themselves by quitting the addiction years ago – try doing what they did.

    (5) To Please Women
For many men, this starts in childhood – trying to show your mom that you like her meals by eating all that she provides on the table – and reemerges as a way to show your wife that you like her meals by eating all that she provides on the table. At times like this, men tend to forget that words and communication are just as important. Instead of gorging yourself, try telling her how great her food is.

In conclusion, overeating is most often a symptom of an underlying problem, not the cause. Once you realize why you overeat, you can deal with the issue behind your eating habits, and soon you will be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

Ok ladies (and gentlemen if you wish) I’ve hesitated to put this up but decided, what do I have to lose but pounds? May 25(6 mo b4 my next b-day is why I chose that date) I am beginning a quest for health. I was wondering if anyone w/lbs to lose or just wants a support group to get healthy would like to join. This is just a group to keep ppl accountable. Everyone can choose their own method of weight loss. I thought it would be great to share ideas, eating tips, exercise ideas, etc and lift each other up. I was thinking we could weigh once a month and if you want report your lbs lost to the group. Your starting weight of course is your business. But reporting your loss to a group has been proven to be a great motivator. This is 6 months of fabulous support and hopefully, no matter where you live, we can have a holiday get together to show off our new bods. Is anyone in? Let me know by commenting or PMing me. I know I need the positive influence, hoping others may too. Whether you have 15 lbs or 100 lbs to lose, no judgment, just strong support, meal tips, exercise tips, etc to each other. If we can get 5 or more ppl, I will start and manage a FB page for us. Let’s show the world our success in numbers and our strength as a team! Thanks.

    HCG Diet Success Tips

Top 4 Causes of Failure With the HCG Diet

#4 – Cheating on the diet! What if your daily calorie intake was 700 instead of 500? Even though it seems to be a small deviation, this causes your body to start pulling your energy from your calories instead of your fat deposits. The purpose of the HCG diet is to cause the body to pull your energy from stored fat. If you are even slightly above the 500 calorie daily intake, then it will change where the body pull its energy from.

#3- Wrong types of proteins and calories. When on the HCG diet, we often see the word protein and immediately think steak, beef, pork, or other meats that are high in fat content. Even though it is okay to have these meats in small amounts, it should not be looked at as a main course because of the volume of fat content. When thinking of foods to add proteins to our meals, fish, chicken, and lean types of beef are a much better and healthier option along with making it easier for our bodies to burn stored fat.

#2- Constipation. One of the common side effects of the HCG diet program is constipation. When we don’t lose weight for several days and we aren’t using the bathroom as often, this could be to blame. It is recommended while on the HCG diet that natural colon cleansing methods are used regularly to allow the body to pass our stools.

#1 – Lack of consistency. Whether it be with remembering to take the HCG diet drops or with your overall daily calorie intake, this is probably the most common reason people fail to lose weight while on the HCG diet. When the menu calls for 1 serving of vegetables, 1 serving of fruit, and a protein we sometimes substitute other foods for the foods we don’t want. Or, we succumb to our temptations and substitute another fruit instead of the vegetable. The body demands a specific balance and any deficiency will force the body to pull its energy from other sources. For example, some fruits have a large amount of natural sugar. If we double the amount of natural sugar, then the body will begin to pull our energy from that source. Our body will burn through it very quickly and then we will start to get very hungry and our body will crave more calories. Our body while on the HCG diet is in a state of deficiency, if the balance is knocked off even just a little bit for one day, it can throw off the results by a large amount for days to come.

    Do’s and Don’ts

Do take a good multi-vitamin/mineral with potassium (or take separately). Make sure all vitamins are NOT fat soluble. No fish oils, vit E or A. We recommend you buy high quality products such as those carried by health food stores. They will help with energy and regularity.

    Drink lots of water

    Do light exercise.

Do not use lotion, oils or lubricants. This includes oil based cosmetics. – Fats, oils, creams, lotions and ointments applied to the skin are absorbed and interfere with weight reduction by hCG just as if they had been eaten. The body will stop burning fat and digest these oils instead. Stay away from these while on this program. Mineral oil (baby oil) may be used if needed. Lipsticks and powders are fine. Oil free foundation or mineral powder is a good substitute. Alba oil free lotion from your local health food store is a great alternative. Not abiding by this can stall weight loss for 1-3 days.

Don’t add any foods of any kind that are not on the food list.

No Sugar! Read all your labels on seasonings and food. No sugar or starch.

    No gums or mints

No diet drinks (diet sodas, diet/sugar-free powdered drinks)

    No butter, oil or dressing

Plateau Breakers (if weight loss slows)

    1. Increase water intake

    2. Try adding a glass or 2 of green tea to your day

    3. Don’t eat 2 apples for the 2 fruits or cut down apple size

    4. Cut beef down or out

    5. Check all condiments for any form of sugar.

    6. If mixing vegetables, stop.

    7. If having trouble with constipation, try magnesium, Epson salt, or Smooth Move tea- most people find this very effective. Found in specialty section of grocery store or local health food store. It is not unusual to have a bowel only once every 3 -4 days while on this diet and that, provided plenty of fluids are taken, this never leads to any disturbance. If constipated or going longer than 4 days use a suppository or tea.

    8. Leave out one or both breadsticks/melba toast

    9. Stop eating out.

    10. No diet drinks or cheats.

Its good to have the info, you might help someone somewhere.
    Mung Beans
The mighty mung bean has been used by Ayurvedic doctors for thousands of years. It is incredibly easy to digest, and absorbs toxic residue on the sides of the intestinal walls.

    Raw Vegetables
Best for juicing detox regimens or eaten raw: Onions, carrots, artichoke, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, garlic, beet, turmeric, and oregano. The combination of these foods will help your liver purge toxins during the cleansing process. These are high in naturally occurring sulphur and glutathione. Sulphur helps the liver detoxify harmful chemicals.

    Seeds & Nuts
Incorporate more of the easily digestible seeds and nuts into your diet. This include flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, Siberian cedar nuts and sunflower seeds. While detoxing, avoid nut butters.

Omega-3 OilsUse hemp, avocado, olive oils or flax seed oil while detoxing. This will help lubricate the intestinal walls, allowing the toxins to be absorbed by the oil, and eliminated by the body.

So I’m at the grocery store buying a bag of dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn’t have a dog, I was starting the Dog food Diet again, and that I probably shouldn’t because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I’d lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and all you do is load your pockets with food Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle’s butt and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Now that you’ve read this I have to confess, I copied it. Now copy and share. Make someone else laugh :)

You need to workout regularly, if you wish to remain fit and maintain figure. For losing weight, you will have to follow a diet chart for weight loss along with your workout regime and stick to it. By specifying your activities and calorie intake during the day, the list gives you a good idea of what you must eat to be on track. You may also use a diet chart for weight loss available in the market or on the internet, though an individual-specific diet chart would be the best bet, especially if you have a medical condition. Below is a diet chart to help you get started right away. A quick tip: make sure you have your diet basket loaded.

[Read: Lose Weight with Combination Diet]

Early Morning (6-7 a.m): Glass Of Water Tea/Coffee with a Rusk or Biscuit
Mid Morning (10.30-11.30 a.m): One Orange
Lunch(Packed Tiffin) (1.00-2.00 p.m): Phulkas (made with one part Oat Bran + three parts wheat flour) along with Paneer Bhurjhi made from skimmed milk and sliced carrots. For the sweet tooth: Candied Dry Amla Piece
Evening Tea (4.00-6.00 p.m): Tea/Coffee with Bhelpuri (avoid the namkeens and papri and keep the chutneys intake low)
Dinner(7.00-8.00 p.m): Tomato Soup with Vegetable Noodles and for dessert: One small cup Jelly.
    Post Dinner (8.30-9.30 p.m): Papaya
Notes: Morning walk/Evening walk: 30-45 minutes; Oil intake: 2 Tablespoons; Sugar intake: 2 Teaspoons; Water: 1 and 1/2 Litre a day

Benefits of a Diet Chart for Weight Loss
    1. Staying Focused on the Goal
It helps an overweight person to stay focused on what needs to be eaten throughout the day. You will know about everything that goes into your mouth.

    2. Disease Prevention
As you adapt to a particular type of diet and time to eat it, you will develop good eating habits, by default, which therefore, adds to your efforts in disease prevention.By following a diet chart, you are subconsciously reducing your risks of certain cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, kidney stones, etc.

    3. Balanced Nutrition
A diet chart evens out the nutritive needs of one’s body, thereby keeping your metabolism functioning swiftly.

    4. Choice of Diet Chart According to your Weight Loss Goal
Diet charts for weight loss are available for different purposes. There are some which focus to reduce weight in a week, 10 days, a month or more. You can choose yours based on your inclination. It would be always recommended to adopt a long-term weight loss plan, so that the healthful food and exercise regimen becomes a lifestyle and not a fad.
[Read: How is Indian Food Good as Weight Loss Diet]
    5. Information on Healthful Foods
The low calorie foods listed on the diet chart gives information about the healthful foods that they need to eat. The information on which food is high in protein but low in fat and cholesterol is not widespread, but a list of such foods is usually present on weight loss diet charts.
[Read: How Coconut Water helps in Weight Loss]
    6. Preparation of Balanced Diet
A diet chart would help you make a balanced diet plan which would include all the six important nutrients in their right proportion. They are fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins, proteins and fibers.
[Read: What is the Importance of Balanced Diet?]
To make sure the diet chart works best in helping you attain your weight loss goals, plot the chart only once a week and make comments on how far you have progressed and what more needs to be done. You can always refer to the chart as the weeks pass by. Another important feature of such a weight loss diet chart is the BMI scale. It evaluates your weight as normal, underweight, overweight or obese based on your height and age.

The menstrual cycle is the scientific term for the physiological changes that occur in fertile women and other female primates for the purposes of sexual reproduction. This article focuses on the human menstrual cycle, a “monthly” cycle that can vary around an average of 28 days per cycle.

The menstrual cycle, under the control of the endocrine system, is necessary for reproduction. It is commonly divided into three phases: the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. It is also occasionally misclassified using the uterine cycle: menstruation, proliferative phase, and secretory phase.[1] Menstrual cycles are counted from the first day of menstrual bleeding. Hormonal contraception interferes with the normal hormonal changes with the aim of preventing reproduction.[2]

Stimulated by gradually increasing amounts of estrogen in the follicular phase, discharges of blood (menses) slow then stop, and the lining of the uterus thickens. Follicles in the ovary begin developing under the influence of a complex interplay of hormones, and after several days one or occasionally two become dominant (non-dominant follicles atrophy and die). Approximately mid-cycle, 24–36 hours after the Luteinizing Hormone (LH) surges, the dominant follicle releases an ovum, or egg in an event called ovulation. After ovulation, the egg only lives for 24 hours or less without fertilization while the remains of the dominant follicle in the ovary become a corpus luteum; this body has a primary function of producing large amounts of progesterone. Under the influence of progesterone, the endometrium (uterine lining) changes to prepare for potential implantation of an embryo to establish a pregnancy. If implantation does not occur within approximately two weeks, the corpus luteum will involute, causing sharp drops in levels of both progesterone and estrogen. These hormone drops cause the uterus to shed its lining and egg in a process termed menstruation.

In the menstrual cycle, changes occur in the female reproductive system as well as other systems (which lead to breast tenderness or mood changes, for example). A woman’s first menstruation is termed menarche, and occurs typically around age 12-13. The end of a woman’s reproductive phase is called the menopause, which commonly occurs somewhere between the ages of 45 and 55.

    Menstrual cycle

The average age of menarche in humans is 12–13 years, but is normal anywhere between ages 8 and 16. The average age of menarche is about 12.5 years in the United States,[3] 12.72 in Canada,[4] 12.9 in the UK[5] and 13.06 ± 0.10 years in Iceland.[6] Factors such as heredity, diet and overall health can accelerate or delay menarche.[7] The cessation of menstrual cycles at the end of a woman’s reproductive period is termed menopause. The average age of menopause in women is 52 years, with anywhere between 45 and 55 being common. Menopause before age 45 is considered premature in industrialised countries.[8] Like the age of menarche, the age of menopause is largely a result of cultural and biological factors;[9] however, illnesses, certain surgeries, or medical treatments may cause menopause to occur earlier than it might have otherwise.[10]

The length of a woman’s menstrual cycle will typically vary, with some shorter cycles and some longer cycles. A woman who experiences variations of less than eight days between her longest cycles and shortest cycles is considered to have regular menstrual cycles. It is unusual for a woman to experience cycle length variations of less than four days. Length variation between eight and 20 days is considered as moderately irregular cycles. Variation of 21 days or more between a woman’s shortest and longest cycle lengths is considered very irregular. [11]

The menstrual cycle can be divided into several different phases. The average length of each phase is shown below, the first three are related to changes in the lining of the uterus whereas the final three are related to processes occurring in the ovary:
Name of phase Average start day
assuming a 28-day cycle Average end day Average duration

    Main article: Menstruation

Menstruation is also called menstrual bleeding, menses, catamenia or a period. The flow of menses normally serves as a sign that a woman has not become pregnant. (However, this cannot be taken as certainty, as a number of factors can cause bleeding during pregnancy; some factors are specific to early pregnancy, and some can cause heavy flow.)[12][13][14]
Levels of estradiol (the main estrogen), progesterone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone during the menstrual cycle, taking inter-cycle and inter-woman variability into account.[15]

Eumenorrhea denotes normal, regular menstruation that lasts for a few days (usually 3 to 5 days, but anywhere from 2 to 7 days is considered normal).[16][17] The average blood loss during menstruation is 35 milliliters with 10–80 ml considered normal.[18] Women who experience Menorrhagia are more susceptible to iron deficiency than the average person.[19] An enzyme called plasmin inhibits clotting in the menstrual fluid.[20]

Painful cramping in the abdomen, back, or upper thighs is common during the first few days of menstruation. Severe uterine pain during menstruation is known as dysmenorrhea, and it is most common among adolescents and younger women (affecting about 67.2% of adolescent females).[21] When menstruation begins, symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) such as breast tenderness and irritability generally decrease.[17] Many sanitary products are marketed to women for use during their menstruation.
    Follicular phase
    Main article: Follicular phase

This phase is also called the proliferative phase because a hormone causes the lining of the uterus to grow, or proliferate, during this time.[22]

Through the influence of a rise in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) during the first days of the cycle, a few ovarian follicles are stimulated.[22] These follicles, which were present at birth[22] and have been developing for the better part of a year in a process known as folliculogenesis, compete with each other for dominance. Under the influence of several hormones, all but one of these follicles will stop growing, while one dominant follicle in the ovary will continue to maturity. The follicle that reaches maturity is called a tertiary, or Graafian, follicle, and it contains the ovum.[22]

As they mature, the follicles secrete increasing amounts of estradiol, an estrogen. The estrogens initiate the formation of a new layer of endometrium in the uterus, histologically identified as the proliferative endometrium. The estrogen also stimulates crypts in the cervix to produce fertile cervical mucus, which may be noticed by women practicing fertility awareness.[23]
    Main article: Ovulation
An ovary about to release an egg.

During the follicular phase, estradiol suppresses production of luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland. When the egg has nearly matured, levels of estradiol reach a threshold above which this effect is reversed and estrogen actually stimulates the production of a large amount of LH. This process, known as the LH surge, starts around day 12 of the average cycle and may last 48 hours.[citation needed]

The exact mechanism of these opposite responses of LH levels to estradiol is not well understood.[24]:86 In animals, a Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) surge has been shown to precede the LH surge, suggesting that estrogen’s main effect is on the hypothalamus, which controls GnRH secretion.[24]:86 This may be enabled by the presence of two different estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus: estrogen receptor alpha, which is responsible for the negative feedback estradiol-LH loop, and estrogen receptor beta, which is responsible for the positive estradiol-LH relationship.[25] However in humans it has been shown that high levels of estradiol can provoke abrupt increases in LH, even when GnRH levels and pulse frequencies are held constant,[24]:86 suggesting that estrogen acts directly on the pituitary to provoke the LH surge.

The release of LH matures the egg and weakens the wall of the follicle in the ovary, causing the fully developed follicle to release its secondary oocyte.[22] The secondary oocyte promptly matures into an ootid and then becomes a mature ovum. The mature ovum has a diameter of about 0.2 mm.[26]

Which of the two ovaries—left or right—ovulates appears essentially random; no known left and right co-ordination exists.[27] Occasionally, both ovaries will release an egg;[27] if both eggs are fertilized, the result is fraternal twins.[28]

After being released from the ovary, the egg is swept into the fallopian tube by the fimbria, which is a fringe of tissue at the end of each fallopian tube. After about a day, an unfertilized egg will disintegrate or dissolve in the fallopian tube.[22]

Fertilization by a spermatozoon, when it occurs, usually takes place in the ampulla, the widest section of the fallopian tubes. A fertilized egg immediately begins the process of embryogenesis, or development. The developing embryo takes about three days to reach the uterus and another three days to implant into the endometrium.[22] It has usually reached the blastocyst stage at the time of implantation.

In some women, ovulation features a characteristic pain called mittelschmerz (German term meaning middle pain).[17] The sudden change in hormones at the time of ovulation sometimes also causes light mid-cycle blood flow.[29]
    Luteal phase
    Main article: Luteal phase

The luteal phase is also called the secretory phase. An important role is played by the corpus luteum, the solid body formed in an ovary after the egg has been released from the ovary into the fallopian tube. This body continues to grow for some time after ovulation and produces significant amounts of hormones, particularly progesterone.[22] Progesterone plays a vital role in making the endometrium receptive to implantation of the blastocyst and supportive of the early pregnancy, by increasing blood flow and uterine secretions and reducing the contractility of the smooth muscle in the uterus;[30] it also has the side effect of raising the woman’s basal body temperature.[31]

After ovulation, the pituitary hormones FSH and LH cause the remaining parts of the dominant follicle to transform into the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone. The increased progesterone in the adrenals starts to induce the production of estrogen. The hormones produced by the corpus luteum also suppress production of the FSH and LH that the corpus luteum needs to maintain itself. Consequently, the level of FSH and LH fall quickly over time, and the corpus luteum subsequently atrophies.[22] Falling levels of progesterone trigger menstruation and the beginning of the next cycle. From the time of ovulation until progesterone withdrawal has caused menstruation to begin, the process typically takes about two weeks, with 14 days considered normal. For an individual woman, the follicular phase often varies in length from cycle to cycle; by contrast, the length of her luteal phase will be fairly consistent from cycle to cycle.[32]

The loss of the corpus luteum can be prevented by fertilization of the egg; the resulting embryo produces human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is very similar to LH and which can preserve the corpus luteum. Because the hormone is unique to the embryo, most pregnancy tests look for the presence of hCG.[22]
    Behavioral change

In some cases, hormones released during the menstrual cycle can cause behavioral changes in females; mild to severe mood swings can occur.[33]

Although many people believe the average menstrual cycle takes 28 days, a large study of more than 30,000 cycles from more than 2300 women showed that the mean cycle length was 29.1 with a standard deviation of 7.5 days and a 95% prediction interval of between 15 and 45 days.[34] In that study, the subset of data with cycle lengths between 15 and 45 days had an average length of 28.1 days with a standard deviation of 4 days. A smaller study of 140 women performed in 2006 found a mean cycle length of 28.9 days.[35]

The variability of menstrual cycle lengths is highest for women under 25 years of age and is lowest, that is, most regular, for ages 35 to 39.[34] Subsequently, the variability increases slightly for women aged 40 to 44.[34] Usually, length variation between eight and 20 days in a woman is considered as moderately irregular menstrual cycles.[11] Variation of 21 days or more is considered very irregular.[11]

As measured on women undergoing in vitro fertilization, a longer menstrual cycle length is associated with higher pregnancy and delivery rates, even after age adjustment.[36] Delivery rates after IVF has been estimated to be almost doubled for women with a menstrual cycle length of more than 34 days compared with women with a menstrual cycle length shorter than 26 days.[36] A longer menstrual cycle length is also significantly associated with better ovarian response to gonadotropin stimulation and embryo quality.[36]

The luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is about the same length in most individuals (mean 14/13 days, SD 1.41 days)[37] whereas the follicular phase tends to show much more variability (log-normally distributed with 95% of individuals having follicular phases between 10.3 and 16.3 days).[38] The follicular phase also seems to get significantly shorter with age (geometric mean 14.2 days in women age 18-24 vs. 10.4 days in women aged 40–44).[38]

A 1979 study of 305 women found that approximately one-third of the subjects had lunar period cycles in length, i.e., a mean cycle length of 29.5 days plus or minus 1 day. Almost two-thirds of the subjects started their cycle in the brighter half of the lunar cycle, significantly more than would be expected by random distribution.[39] Another study found a statistically significant number of menstruations occurred around the new moon.[40]
    Fertile window
    Main article: Fertility testing

The most fertile period (the time with the highest likelihood of pregnancy resulting from sexual intercourse) covers the time from some 5 days before until 1 to 2 days after ovulation.[41] In a 28‑day cycle with a 14‑day luteal phase, this corresponds to the second and the beginning of the third week. A variety of methods have been developed to help individual women estimate the relatively fertile and the relatively infertile days in the cycle; these systems are called fertility awareness.

Fertility awareness methods that rely on cycle length records alone are called calendar-based methods.[42] Methods that require observation of one or more of the three primary fertility signs (basal body temperature, cervical mucus, and cervical position)[43] are known as symptoms-based methods.[42] Urine test kits are available that detect the LH surge that occurs 24 to 36 hours before ovulation; these are known as ovulation predictor kits (OPKs).[44] Computerized devices that interpret basal body temperatures, urinary test results, or changes in saliva are called fertility monitors.

A woman’s fertility is also affected by her age.[45][46] As a woman’s total egg supply is formed in fetal life,[47] to be ovulated decades later, it has been suggested that this long lifetime may make the chromatin of eggs more vulnerable to division problems, breakage, and mutation than the chromatin of sperm, which are produced continuously during a man’s reproductive life. However, despite this hypothesis, a similar paternal age effect has also been observed.
    Effect on other systems

Some women with neurological conditions experience increased activity of their conditions at about the same time during each menstrual cycle. For example, drops in estrogen levels have been known to trigger migraines,[48] especially when the woman who suffers migraines is also taking the birth control pill. Many women with epilepsy have more seizures in a pattern linked to the menstrual cycle; this is called “catamenial epilepsy”.[49] Different patterns seem to exist (such as seizures coinciding with the time of menstruation, or coinciding with the time of ovulation), and the frequency with which they occur has not been firmly established. Using one particular definition, one group of scientists found that around one-third of women with intractable partial epilepsy have catamenial epilepsy.[49][50][51] An effect of hormones has been proposed, in which progesterone declines and estrogen increases would trigger seizures.[52] Recently, studies have shown that high doses of estrogen can cause or worsen seizures, whereas high doses of progestrone can act like an antiepileptic drug.[53] Studies by medical journals have found that women experiencing menses are 1.68 times more likely to commit suicide.[54]

Mice have been used as an experimental system to investigate possible mechanisms by which levels of sex steroid hormones might regulate nervous system function. During the part of the mouse estrous cycle when progesterone is highest, the level of nerve-cell GABA receptor subtype delta was high. Since these GABA receptors are inhibitory, nerve cells with more delta receptors are less likely to fire than cells with lower numbers of delta receptors. During the part of the mouse estrous cycle when estrogen levels are higher than progesterone levels, the number of delta receptors decrease, increasing nerve cell activity, in turn increasing anxiety and seizure susceptibility.[55]

Estrogen levels may affect thyroid behavior.[56] For example, during the luteal phase (when estrogen levels are lower), the velocity of blood flow in the thyroid is lower than during the follicular phase (when estrogen levels are higher).[57]

Among women living closely together, it was once thought that the onsets of menstruation tend to synchronize. This effect was first described in 1971, and possibly explained by the action of pheromones in 1998.[58] Subsequent research has called this hypothesis into question.[59]

Research indicates that women have a significantly higher likelihood of anterior cruciate ligament injuries in the pre-ovulatory stage, than post-ovulatory stage.[60]

The different phases of the menstrual cycle correlate with women’s moods. The menstrual cycle phase and ovarian hormones may contribute to increased empathy in women. The natural shift of hormone levels during the different phases of the menstrual cycle have been studied in conjunction with test scores. When completing empathy exercises, women in the follicular stage of their menstrual cycle performed better than women in their midluteal phase. A significant correlation between progesterone levels and the ability to accurately recognize emotion was found. Performances on emotion recognition tasks were better when women had lower progesterone levels. Women in the follicular stage showed higher emotion recognition accuracy then their midluteal phase counterparts. Women were found to react more to negative stimuli when in midluteal stage over the women in the follicular stage, perhaps indicating more reactivity to social stress during that menstrual cycle phase.[61] Overall, it has been found that women in the follicular phase demonstrated better performance in tasks that contain empathetic traits.

Fear response in women during two different points in the menstrual cycle has been examined. When oestrogen is highest in the preovulatory stage, women are significantly better are identifying expressions of fear then women who were menstruating which is when oestrogen levels are lowest. The women were equally able to identify happy faces, demonstrating that the fear response was a more powerful response. To summarize, menstrual cycle phase and the oestrogen levels have a correlation to women’s fear processing.[62]

However, the examination of daily moods in women with measuring ovarian hormones may indicate a less powerful connection. In comparison to levels of stress or physical health, the ovarian hormones had less of an impact on overall mood.[63] This indicates that while changes of ovarian hormones may influence mood, on a day-to-day level it does not influence mood more than other stressors do.
    Cycle abnormalities and disorders
    Main article: Menstrual disorder

Infrequent or irregular ovulation is called oligoovulation.[64] The absence of ovulation is called anovulation. Normal menstrual flow can occur without ovulation preceding it: an anovulatory cycle. In some cycles, follicular development may start but not be completed; nevertheless, estrogens will form and will stimulate the uterine lining. Anovulatory flow resulting from a very thick endometrium caused by prolonged, continued high estrogen levels is called estrogen breakthrough bleeding. Anovulatory bleeding triggered by a sudden drop in estrogen levels is called changes.[65] Anovulatory cycles commonly occur before menopause (perimenopause) and in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.[66]

Very little flow (less than 10 ml) is called hypomenorrhea. Regular cycles with intervals of 21 days or fewer are polymenorrhea; frequent but irregular menstruation is known as metrorrhagia. Sudden heavy flows or amounts greater than 80 ml are termed menorrhagia.[67] Heavy menstruation that occurs frequently and irregularly is menometrorrhagia. The term for cycles with intervals exceeding 35 days is oligomenorrhea.[68] Amenorrhea refers to more than three[67] to six[68] months without menses (while not being pregnant) during a woman’s reproductive years.

George Preti, an organic chemist at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia and Winnefred Cutler of the University of Pennsylvania’s psychology department, discovered that women with irregular menstrual cycles became regular when exposed to male underarm extracts.[69] They hypothesized that the only explanation was that underarms contain pheromones, as there was no other explanation for the effects, which mirrored how pheromones affect other mammals.[69]
    Ovulation suppression
    Hormonal contraception
    Main article: Hormonal contraception
Half-used blister pack of a combined oral contraceptive. The white pills are placebos, mainly for the purpose of reminding the woman to continue taking the pills.

While some forms of birth control do not affect the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptives work by disrupting it. Progestogen negative feedback decreases the pulse frequency of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release by the hypothalamus, which decreases the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) by the anterior pituitary. Decreased levels of FSH inhibit follicular development, preventing an increase in estradiol levels. Progestogen negative feedback and the lack of estrogen positive feedback on LH release prevent a mid-cycle LH surge. Inhibition of follicular development and the absence of a LH surge prevent ovulation.[70][71][72]

The degree of ovulation suppression in progestogen-only contraceptives depends on the progestogen activity and dose. Low dose progestogen-only contraceptives—traditional progestogen only pills, subdermal implants Norplant and Jadelle, and intrauterine system Mirena—inhibit ovulation in about 50% of cycles and rely mainly on other effects, such as thickening of cervical mucus, for their contraceptive effectiveness.[73] Intermediate dose progestogen-only contraceptives—the progestogen-only pill Cerazette and the subdermal implant Nexplanon—allow some follicular development but more consistently inhibit ovulation in 97–99% of cycles. The same cervical mucus changes occur as with very low-dose progestogens. High-dose, progestogen-only contraceptives—the injectables Depo-Provera and Noristerat—completely inhibit follicular development and ovulation.[73]

Combined hormonal contraceptives include both an estrogen and a progestogen. Estrogen negative feedback on the anterior pituitary greatly decreases the release of LH, which makes combined hormonal contraceptives more effective at inhibiting follicular development and preventing ovulation. Estrogen also reduces the incidence of irregular breakthrough bleeding.[70][71][72] Several combined hormonal contraceptives—the pill, NuvaRing, and the contraceptive patch—are usually used in a way that causes regular withdrawal bleeding. In a normal cycle, menstruation occurs when estrogen and progesterone levels drop rapidly.[31] Temporarily discontinuing use of combined hormonal contraceptives (a placebo week, not using patch or ring for a week) has a similar effect of causing the uterine lining to shed. If withdrawal bleeding is not desired, combined hormonal contraceptives may be taken continuously, although this increases the risk of breakthrough bleeding.
    Lactational amenorrhea
    Main article: Lactational amenorrhea method

Breastfeeding causes negative feedback to occur on pulse secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Depending on the strength of the negative feedback, breastfeeding women may experience complete suppression of follicular development, follicular development but no ovulation, or normal menstrual cycles may resume.[74] Suppression of ovulation is more likely when suckling occurs more frequently.[75] The production of prolactin in response to suckling is important to maintaining lactational amenorrhea.[76] On average, women who are fully breastfeeding whose infants suckle frequently experience a return of menstruation at fourteen and a half months postpartum. There is a wide range of response among individual breastfeeding women, however, with some experiencing return of menstruation at two months and others remaining amenorrheic for up to 42 months postpartum.[77]
    Etymological and biological associations
    Nightlighting and the moon
See also: Culture and menstruation and Lunar effect

The word “menstruation” is etymologically related to “moon”. The terms “menstruation” and “menses” are derived from the Latin mensis (month), which in turn relates to the Greek mene (moon) and to the roots of the English words month and moon.[78]

Some authors believe that, historically, women in traditional societies without nightlighting ovulated with the full moon and menstruated with the new moon,[79] and one author documents the controversial attempts to use the association to improve the rhythm method of regulating conception.[78][80]

Some studies in both humans[81] and other animals[82] have found that artificial light at night does influence the menstrual cycle in humans and the estrus cycle in mice (cycles are more regular in the absence of artificial light at night). It has also been suggested that bright light exposure in the morning promotes more regular cycles.[83] One author has suggested that sensitivity of women’s cycles to nightlighting is caused by nutritional deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals.[84]

A meta-analysis of studies from 1996 showed no correlation between the human menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle.[85][86][87][88][89][90] Dogon villagers did not have electric lighting and spent most nights outdoors, talking and sleeping; so they were an ideal population for detecting a lunar influence; none, however, was found.[91]

The Healthy, Stealthy Full-Plate Fake-out Article
    By: Elly Trickett McNerney

Try these Weight Watchers staff secrets to feeling full and satisfied after every meal.

Perception is the key to making yourself think you’re eating more than you are. It’s not just about eating from smaller plates — though that’s always a useful tip. It’s about different ways of looking at the meals you cook: how you combine the ingredients and serve them. It’s also about eating something similar to an old-time, high PointsPlus® value favorite (like that now-classic swap, spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti).
Weight Watchers editors and other staff (past and present!) each have their own tips and tricks for the full-plate fake-out. Read them, steal their ideas, and then share your own on the Portion Control Message Board thread. “I’d much rather eat my PB and J open-faced because it looks like more. Another thing I do is roast a whole pint of cherry tomatoes because the almost no PointsPlus value volume feels so comforting. I can eat so much and still lose weight.” — Leslie Fink, MS, RD
“I’ll put anything on top of a salad — even a frozen dinner. I also add vegetables to pasta sauce, blueberries or strawberries to cereal, and salsa to food. ” — Jenn Coonce “I live on cauliflower soup in the winter. I simply boil two whole heads of cauliflower florets in chicken broth with an onion and some garlic until it breaks apart and makes a hearty, stew-like concoction. I eat a huge bowl of it for little to no PointsPlus values!” — Liz Josefsberg “Speaking of cauliflower, I boil it and then mash with a bit of yogurt. It tastes almost like potatoes.” — Theresa DiMasi
“I usually have bite-size Shredded Wheat or Frosted Mini-Wheats for breakfast. Eating them sans milk, one by one, by hand, makes the bowl last longer, giving me more time to fill up. I also slice apples and pears instead of just biting them whole. Anything looks like more food when it’s cut up.” — Beth Herbert
“Rather than make a sandwich, I like to arrange all the ingredients on a plate with a lot of lettuce so I feel like I’m looking at a full meal. Just imagine a plate containing all these goodies: A whole wheat pita, split in half and toasted, then cut into triangles; 2 ounces of smoked salmon; 2 Tbsp low-fat cream cheese; 1 tomato, sliced; some red onion; capers; a lemon wedge; and a pile of arugula with 1 tsp olive oil and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. It looks so much more plentiful than if you’d just made a pita sandwich, and it takes three times as long to eat, assembling each wedge.” — Elly Trickett McNerney
“I use a smaller fork or spoon! I also use frozen fruit in salad dressing: just mashed-up raspberries or blackberries, etc., with balsamic vinegar and tiny bit of oil. It makes it go a long way as it’s thicker than a bottled dressing. And I like eating in the dark: I had a children’s book I loved as a kid where the family had an electrical outage, and one of the kids said, ‘I love eating in the dark… it makes it taste like more.’ So, candlelight, fancy place-settings, it all helps.” — Rebecca Turner “Anything cut up into small pieces looks like way more than it is (I discovered this cutting up food for my kids). My best secret is roasted potatoes — I cut them pretty small (an inch or so wide, and pretty thin) and roast in a small amount of oil to make little delicious bites that take up half my plate, when I’ve only served myself the equivalent of half a potato.” — Amanda Genge
“When it comes to dessert, which is usually chocolate, I try to make sure I eat slowly. By microwaving my deep chocolate VitaTop that I usually eat after lunch, it enables me to thoroughly enjoy it, like one of those molten cakes. It’s very satisfying.” — Kim Cassidy “I don’t like diet soda, but the real stuff gobbles up too many PointsPlus values. If I’m really in the mood, though, I’ll fill a big glass full of ice and just pour myself a small amount. I’ve got a huge glass full of my favorite beverage — for next to no PointsPlus values!” Kristina Lucarelli

Is it wrong to watch Extreme Makeover weight loss while reading a Food magazine?!!

We can be bombarded with so much information that even I get confused on whats right and wrong. I don’t work in the gym, and I don’t get to learn from other trainers (sometimes thats a good thing). I make sure that the information I give you isn’t coming from some latest diet crave on “about.com” or the latest exercise phenomenon from Livestrong. I have never spoken or promoted any diet on my page!! I haven’t promoted things like Atins, Paleo, HCG, etc. What I have promoted is better choices. Diets DON’T work!!!! Thats why its the biggest business out there cause everyone is looking for the best quick fix. Let me say this again…….DIETS DON’T WORK! Make better choices, stop filling up with processed foods, breads, high sugar treats. Choose healthier foods that our bodies actually crave on a cellular level (more vegetables, salads, legumes and lean protein).

Exercises change all the time, again I always wonder if I am doing the right stuff with my clients, but as I keep seeing results over and over again I realize I am doing the right stuff. Whats the biggest hit right now … HIIT (no pun intended). Interval training has and always will be the best way to train. You obviously don’t want to train like this 5 days a week so 2-3 days a week is plenty to do intervals. But lets talk about functional training. Functional training is about doing things that we do in our every day life. Squatting (picking up our kids), lunging (picking up toys after our kids), pulling (Pulling weeds out of the garden), pushing, twisting, bending, etc. So train that way!! I love this attached article. I am sure some of us have heard of Tracey Anderson (trainer to the stars). She believes that NO woman should lift more that 3lbs. Really? Is this functional in our every day life? How many lbs does your 2 year old weigh?? You make up your own mind…

    Thyroid issues???
Read a testimony by Debbie Syzponik:

A year ago I had my thyroid tested along with my hormones and where I am generally low with my numbers, TSH was high and T4 was quite low. The doc wanted to give me medication for it but I declined and started taking Thyromin.
When I did the HCG diet last winter, a diet that is supposed to actually to cure you, not just lose weight but change your eating habits, it didn’t take and I gained back almost all the weight. I looked into why it works for some and not for others, and I found a theory that the thyroid has to be up to par, and since I didn’t want to pay for another blood test, I increased my Thyromin pills to 2 each night. The next time I did the diet, it actually helped me, and I went on to lose more weight after the diet ended.
In France during early July, I was advised to start taking the oil Endoflex for my vitiligo, and started putting a couple of drops under my tongue twice a day. So I’ve been doing that for two months now. (No improvement of the vitiligo however). I had used this oil to balance out my thyroid about 7 years ago when I first joined Young Living, as it was the only medication I was on, and wanted to be med-free. I have the blood tests to prove that it worked, as my blood work was totally covered by the insurance we had at the time. That was my very first amazing, exciting and best yet, proven in black and white testimonial that I had with essential oils.
My hair has been falling out recently, due to stress, but everyone was saying it has to due with the thyroid. I started the Master Cleanse 10 day cleanse (last day was yesterday!) and instead of my hair loss stopping, which is one benefit listed in the book from the cleanse, my hair loss excellerated. I called the author of the book, and told him about it and that I didn’t know if my thyroid was up to par yet. He said that normally the cleanse will make the T4 low, but after the 2nd or 3rd round on the cleanse, it comes back into range. Knowing my thyroid was off on the test from last year, I decided it was worth the hundred or so dollars to have it tested again for the sake of my hair. I just got the results and I am totally normal on all three accounts!
My TSH went from 7.32 to 1.55, right in mid range. T3, which was in range before, went from 2.2 to 2.6, an improvement. T4 went from .72 to 6.8, right in mid range. All these great numbers without drugs, what a blessing!

If anyone is looking to lose weight there is something that will help. It’s called HCG. HGC is a hormone that is produced in high amounts in pregnant woman to Nourish the fetus’s growth. When taken daily it burns fat from men and Women. Has been around since the 1950′s but it’s benefits have only been rediscovered. Do your own research on it. Know a few ladies that have used it with great results.

This is an amazing testimony! Plexus products can help you in so many more ways than just loosing weight. Please take the time and read!!!

    Tom Rowan shares:
I just got off the phone with my Aunt Tracy. I want to share with you what Plexus has done in her life in just the past month. Not just weight loss, but for her health.

Let me begin… at the beginning. When Tracy was a child she was diagnosed with leukemia. She underwent the many treatments available for the time period, chemotherapy, and other invasive treatments. By the age of 14 she was cancer free! As an adult her doctor was treating her for the residual effects of chemo, which included liver disease. Her liver causes her a great deal of pain, so her doctor put her on a regiment of steroids and narcotics to help with the pain. Over time these medications caused her to gain a great deal of weight.

Meanwhile, this doctor was coding all of her treatments with the ICD-9 code for Leukemia. Tracy’s liver has gotten to the point where she needs a transplant, she has been on the list for a while now. Because of her weight, they cannot do the surgery safely, so she requested a gastric-bypass to lose the weight to get the transplant. Her health insurance denied this request because she had a “terminal illness”, referring to her leukemia that she hasn’t had since age 14. She has since changed doctors and is on a path to fixing this coding issue. To do so her doctor has discontinued all pain meds and steroids. My Aunt Tracy is in a great deal of pain again.

She called me and told me this story, so Kristen and I decided to send her a month supply of Slim and Fast Relief capsules to help her with the pain and get a head start on the weight loss. One night while talking to a friend at Plexus HQ in Scottsdale after a meeting, I mentioned this story and what we planned to do. He said to give her address to him and he sent her 2-7 day challenges and another bottle of fast relief capsules.

This is what she reports since only being on the Slim and Fast Relief after one month: so far 12lbs lost and feeling more energetic and much less pain. Three days ago she told me that if she continued to lose weight, that she might not need to do the gastric bypass if she could lose the weight naturally. But what she just told me on the phone just today is that her liver panel came back yesterday and her ammonia level is down from the 90′s to 60, with a 10pt drop in the last 4 days, normal level is from 35-65. Her bilirubin is on the good side (she couldn’t remember the exact number value) for the 1st time in years. She told her doctor that the only thing that she has changed is adding the Slim and Fast Relief, his response: “keep doing what you’re doing!” He read the ingredients and thinks it is the best thing for her.

I wanted to share this with everyone so that they understand 2 things. 1. That Plexus products aren’t just about losing weight, they are for health and wellness all around. And 2. The company Plexus Worldwide is about helping people, not about making the next dollar. I am truly proud that the company I represent has helped one of my favorite people in the whole world on her path to becoming healthy again…

TMI but here we go anyway
    June 3, 2013
Surely it is too much information to share but this is all about real so I must say I am so grateful to poop! LOL! Bowel movements are vital to our well-being and I have always had healthy movements but the iron that I started April 15 got me all messed up and the HCG protocol hasn’t helped. I started the fiber supplement in week 1 but it was upsetting my stomach so I sat with myself (highly recommend sitting and listening to self) and decided to temporarily stop the iron and fiber supplement last week and lo and behold, I’m regular again!!! What a difference that has made. I’m taking it day by day and will start supplements again . . . just don’t know when.

Robin is one of the most real people I know and I remember one of the first “nursey” stories she told me when we met many years ago “If I can help people poop and sleep, it will make a huge difference in their lives!!” It is true!

    So, happy me!! Happy you?

Tip of the Day: Replace addictive energy drinks with white tea. To help break the addiction, try carrying around a thermos of chilled white tea to satisfy your craving. It’s a great alternative to highly caffeinated energy drinks.

  44. RoccoPerkins

Stop basing your life decisions on advice from people who don’t have to deal with the results!!! It’s time to take control of your life!!! If not now, WHEN?

Why would someone rather do HCG and Adipex versus trying all natural? People are getting phenomenal results with our products! It’s scary to me what these doctors recommend to their patients! Why would someone take something that they have to come off of 3 months later because it threatens their life? You can take our products forever…diabetic friendly and kids are even losing weight! Before you see a weight loss doctor or have gastric or lap band surgery, you must try these all-natural products first!

Wow! Simple! Lose 8-15 lbs in the first 8 days!

Been awhile since I’ve updated. So I ended up staying in hospital overnight when I went to the ER on the 23rd. They tested me for everything!! Everything came back negative again, so they figured I had a cold and I got to go home the next day. They sent me home on antibiotics. Before I left, it was Friday so they checked my hcg. It was 0.5! That is the lowest that it will go because that’s how low their machines can detect. We were ecstatic and thought we were finally seeing the light at the end of this long and dark tunnel.
Well, then there was last week. Had my outpatient chemo then had labs at end of week on Friday. To my surprise, my hcg had YET AGAIN risen.

Aamchi Mumbai, you either love it or you hate it

Today I waited for about 30 minutes for an auto while getting drenched in the rain (my fault for not carrying an umbrella), finally got an auto, I told the driver he could pick up more passengers if he wanted as I knew how hard it was to get an auto, finally had one co-passenger who was also headed to the station and then boarded a Mumbai local train half drenched, grinding against others half soaked in rain and sweat, wondering what the real purpose of life is.

When the train was about to leave, there was one guy running like Kajol from Dilwale Dulhaniya le jayenge towards the train, so I grabbed his hand, pulling him onto the train. While I was just about to give him some ‘unsolicited gyaan’ about how dangerous it is to do what he did, he started thanking me like I had given him some 10,000 bucks and while making small talk with him, I realized how important it was for him to board the 9:54 fast local from Andheri and how missing that makes his day miserable. We then got down at Marine Lines and by then I had realized that we were headed in the same direction for a bit. It was still raining ‘cats and men’ and he knew that I wasn’t the man with the ‘BLUE UMBRELLA’. So, he offered me to take me along till I found a Taxi, but I was as much in a hurry as anyone can be and I told him ‘Bhai sahab, ‘Ab aadhe bheege insaan ko baarish se kya darr’, shook hands with him and parted ways.

The city ideally should come to a STAND STILL’ the way it rains here sometimes, but it doesn’t. Yesterday it clocked the highest rainfall in June in the last 10 years, but Autowallahs were still running on the meter. Auto wallahs don’t cheat you here like most other cities, they return the change like they should, unlike in Bangalore where they take it for granted like you are obliged to tip them. Most people who migrate from other parts of the country either go back feeling uncomfortable with the pace at which life moves here, or they NEVER go back for the generations to come. The Vada pavs and the Samosa pavs, the Usal and the Misal Pavs are pretty much the staple diet of a lot of people here, they don’t need anything else, may be a cutting chai once in a while. Whether it’s hot and humid as hell or it’s pouring crazy, people are always on the go. People here believe in earning their livelihood under any circumstances, there is no sponging food and money off friends and relatives.

Sitting in your AC compartments and looking at the rain through the window while sipping your cutting chai, occasionally and ‘cautiously’ putting you head out of the window to smell the ‘rain on mud’ aroma can only get you to appreciate the small things in life that obviously make you happy. On the other hand when you spend a part of your life like most other Mumbaikars do, you appreciate the ‘SPIRIT OF THIS CITY’. I once asked a stranger, ‘Kya kaam karte hain bhai sahab’, and he (at his PHILOSOPHICAL BEST) said, ‘Is sheher me kaam kaun karta hai Sir, yahan pe to sab struggle karte hain bass’. When in trouble, every stranger becomes a bhayya / behenji. I have lived in other cities, but the way this city works together to turn it around when they are down and in trouble is like Djokovic playing when he’s down a match point. The city has survived collapsing buildings, floods and repeated terrorist attacks, only to go back to work the very next day.

You don’t come to this city to take a morning walk with a laid back attitude. Only marathon runners are welcome here, you get up in the morning and you run. It’s hard to ‘LIKE’ this city, you either ‘LOVE IT OR YOU HATE IT’.

    Are you Ready for Ramadan?

Before embarking on a journey, most travellers will prepare for it either physically or mentally. Since Ramadan is just around the corner, here is a quick checklist to better prepare ourselves for this journey of test…..Let’s start from head to toe:-

    1. Head (Brain)

Are our minds clear on what are we expected or required to do and why?

    a. YES. (it’s the third pillar of ISLAM and to seek ALLAH’s mercy and love).
    b. NO.. (check again..!! This is not a joke!).

    2. Eyes

Are we ready to even lower our gazes further?..

    a. YES.. (Hopefully, our eyes will be “shut” to anything “haram” even more than our normal days)…
    b. NO… (please get hold of a blindfold!)..

    3. Ears

Are we ready not to listen to anything but only good such AL QURAN recital, religious speeches etc.?

    a. YES.. (All radio and television programmes are tuned to ISLAMIC channels).
    b. NO… (Earplug anybody?).

    4. Mouth

Are we going to blabber unnecessarily?

    a. YES.. (Silence is golden applied here).
    b. NO… (Allhumdulilah, only Quranic verses will come out from the mouth this Ramadan!..SURE?..TRY no harm trying, Insha’Allah).

    5. Heart

Are we doing it for the sake of ALLAH SWT alone or are we doing it to loose weight?..

    a. YES… (Only ALLAH will know our true “niat” (our intentions) and feeling).
    b. NO…. (Throw that weighing scale, diet manual, exercise machine…clean your heart and focus)..

    6. Hands

Are we going to give alms, zakat and be helpful (lending a hand)..?

    a. YES.. (Allhumdulilah, make sure what the right hand gives the left hand does not know).
    b) NO… (Cut your hand..(KIDDING)..ISLAM is not cruel! Just do not do any harm to others with your hands).

    7. Private Part (Sex)

Lets keep this very private..however for those who are married please exercise restrain? Those who are not married …DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT (period!)..

    a. YES.. (Allhumdulilah fasting is not only avoiding eating or drinking but to curb our other lusts too).
    b. NO… (I do not know what to say….will chastity belts for both men and women do?)..

    8. Legs

Are we going an extra mile to make sure our legs are going to ferry us to and fro the mosque?

    a. YES.. (Every step to the mosque is a blessing for us).
    b. NO… (get ready the chain..?).

Now if your answers are all YES (except for question 4) then you are ready to embark on this “tough” 30 days journey…..If not please go to your nearest convenient store and do a restocking fast!!

I wish all Muslims the best of IMAN and happy travelling. Rasulullah saw ever mentioned that there are some who fast but gain nothing, only hunger and thirst..we do not want to be in these category…

    Please Share……..

    Tip for the day!

In illness alone medicine are not a saviour a GOOD healthy DIET along with your medicines work and prepare the body.

Most allergies and illnesses are related to disturbances in the bowel caused by imbalance between “good” and “bad” bacteria. Antibiotics knock out both, so make an effort to consume fermented foods, raw fruits and veggies, and a good probiotic to strengthen the “good” bacteria and prevent illness.

Stay healthy as the monsoons get with it a beautiful weather but also a poor gut a times…

    Few tips…

    Have clean water

Always wash your fruits n vegetables before consuming

avoid outside vendor food as much as possible, avoid cut fruits from outside.

Blanch the veggies as far as possible….

    Keep shinning dals…

    Health tip.
Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal

    By Leyla Shamayeva

Fact: a diet rich in whole foods, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. Food that comes from a can or a box has a reputation for being less nutrient dense, less fresh, and high in sugar and sodium. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are actually minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition. These items may be well worth having in your fridge or cupboard.
    Canned Beans and Fruit
If there is no time to soak beans overnight, if the fruit you’re craving isn’t in season, or just because it’s easier and cheaper, canned beans and fruit are a healthy option. Although true that they are lower in some nutrients, particularly water soluble ones like vitamin C, it is also true that they can stay fresher longer. Unlike fresh produce, which begins to quickly lose nutrients after it is picked, canned produce is processed at its peak and is nutritionally dense. Combined with the fact that it is protected from harmful oxygen, it can sometimes be fresher than fresh produce! Canned beans were ranked as one of 46 most nutrient dense vegetables, among fresh and frozen produce, with pinto beans, red kidney beans, and green peas coming in the top 15. For the healthiest options, choose low-sodium varieties, rinse the beans before use, and choose fruit in juice or water rather than syrup.
Concerned about BPA in cans? Look for brands of cans that are labeled BPA free!
    Frozen Vegetables and Fruit
Just like canned beans and fruit, frozen vegetables and fruit are considered minimally processed and are actually just as nutritious, if not more so, than fresh produce. Depending on the amount of time that passed since it was picked, fruit and vegetables in the supermarket may have lost many of their nutrients during shipping and handling. In comparison, frozen ones are flash frozen at their peak of ripeness and nutritional value. Although some water-soluble nutrients may have leeched during the blanching process that comes before freezing, overall these products do contain more nutrients. The best part is that they are already washed, cut and ready to be used, saving you time and effort while cooking. You can use them the same way you would fresh fruit, in smoothies, salads, over yogurt, or as a side.
    Canned Tuna and Salmon
Canned fish is another minimally processed food that is ready for use and packed at peak nutritional value. To top that, it is a calorie deal! Starkist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water, for example, has less than 100 calories and over 15 grams of protein per can — perfect to use in a quick salad. Make sure to keep portions limited to three to four 6-8 oz. servings a month if you are concerned about mercury levels. Salmon is another healthy option lower in mercury and other contaminants, and filled with heart healthy omega-3’s and can be used to make salmon salad or salmon cakes.
    Nutrition Rich Drinks
Highly processed drinks like soda are filled with sugar and chemicals, but there are less processed drink options for when water seems like a bland option. Low in calories and high in nutrients, low-sodium versions of vegetable juices like V8 are a healthy way to kill the thirst and sneak in a few servings of vegetables at the same time. Although it does not provide the same amount of fiber and phytonutrients as the vegetable, at less than 50 calories per cup you can have enough calorie room for both. Another healthy option to quench your thirst includes unsweetened green tea.
When it comes to snacks, a cup of yogurt mixed with a handful of nuts or some fruit is all that is needed to curb the hunger. These are common, healthy snacks that we don’t usually think of as processed, but are. In this case, the addition of the probiotics during the processing may actually provide health benefits. Ranging anywhere from less than 100 to 200 plus calories per cup, you can decide for yourself which fits best into your calorie count.

Death to the nut, lol! Okay, I think I’m not going to buy any more nuts for a while. My weight for R3P3D9 is 211.2 pounds. Had to have that additional 0.2 pounds to force me to have a steak day *sigh*. Guess I did it to myself. I think it has a lot to do with my salt intake along with the nuts. The nuts are salted. I’m probably retaining water. It doesn’t matter, though. Steak day regardless! Have a great Thursday, lovelies!

FanQ: Could really use some advice/support. I wrote the other day about recently finding out I am pregnant with baby number 2 and still bfing my 13 mo old. Well my OB told me I needed to stop. I’ve cut both of my day pumpings out and my morning feeding. I’m only nursing to bed and 2-3 Times during the night (We co-sleep). I thought this would be easier but i was soooooo engorged today when i got home from work after not pumping or bfing for 16hrs that i broke down and bf my daughter. What do I do? I don’t know why he is saying to quit as I didn’t meet with him yet only his nurse. I don’t see him until the 11th. I’m fine only nursing at night but what can i do during the day? How do i COMPLETELY wean? I’m so heart broken

So I’m back on the HCG Diet and I’m so excited. So initially I started out at 224. After the diet was over I was 204. I gained back 5lbs :-( because I didn’t properly stabilize as instructed. Well I started the diet Friday June 21 at 209 lbs. Got up this morning at 205.2 YESSSSS!!! WOOHOO. I can feel that 190 coming soon. Funny tho…I don’t look nearly as big as I am. its like my body cuts the fat up and sends it to different departments lol

Ok, so I have been keeping this to myself, and I have now got to the point where the silence is driving me nuts so here we go, in an effort to ease the craziness in my head. At the begining of March, I found out i was preg with bub no 3…… we were very excited and eagerly awaited the 1st scan. We arrived at the 1st scan on a friday morning, only to be told that something just didnt look right and to prepare for a miscarriage in the next couple of day. The doc said he would monitor my blood levels, and do another scan in 1 week, as sometimes they get it wrong, but he felt holding any hope was unlikly so best to prepare for it to start passing naturally in the next few days. Jeez…… what a crap weekend that was, but as the week progressed, we got our heads around the fact. I had been going for bloods every 48 hours, and by the time the week was up and i was due for 2nd scan, I had had no sign of misscarriage and morning sickness had got worse. Anyway, lay on the table, with legs in the air….. fucking love being a woman…… no bloody dignaty left….. hehehehehe…… had a specialist there to do the scan and i was fully prepared to get the news that i had had a missed miscarrage, that would requier surgical removal. Specialist proceeded with scan, then she proceeded to call 3 other specialist in to have a look too. They then looked at me and said have you ever heard of a Molar pregnancy…….. I said, a what? and no. They then said that they would contact the my gyne, which they did, and i was told to get to his rooms asap. On my way to the car I SMSed Clint to google molar pregnancy…… he did…… what a freak of nature!
So, I got to gyne, he re itterated the molar pregnancy bit, booked me in for an immediate termination (on my effing birthday on top of it all) and covered the basis of what this pregnancy intails…… the termination being only the 1st step in treating it, and that I would requier close monitering for a year after, to ensure my hcg levels were dropping and if they didnt drop or began to rise, I would have to start chemo as this means there are invasive molar cells which are cancer…….. but not to worry as the chances of this happening are really small.
The shock of it all only set in after the termination, but was comforted by the strong odds that all would be fine, but irritated at the year of blood tests ahead……….. and so began the weekly blood tests to monitor hcg levels. First weeks blood test showed a drop, second weeks blood test showed more dropping, third weeks blood test………….. and i got a concerned phone call….. levels had risen, but try not to worry, we will see how next one goes, Im sure it will start to drop again…………….. but that wasnt to be the case, got a call today, seeing gyne tomorrow as levels have risen again.
so, from what I can gather, I have what is called Stage I, gestational trophoblastic tumors (cancer FUCK) and will requier chemo and will be advised to have a hysterectomy.
I am telling the world because this has now gotten bigger than i can handle, and maybe by me announcing this to the world, the facts will somehow change and after seeing the gyne tomorrow……… all can admit to just being a big fat drama queen!!!! hehehehehehehehe! fingers crossed for the latter………….. it is a long shot I know!!!
Glad i got all that off my chest…………. I have been holding onto it since March……… and for those who know me……. not an easy feat!!! mchwa!!

I’ve been working on this for a while longer than I had anticipated. It just gets longer and longer. I’ll put up what I have so far, despite being a little unpolished.

Episode 2: Body Fat & Muscle – Looking at all the Angles Part One – Diet

Summer is upon us and many of us can’t wait for our chance to show off the fruits of our New Year’s Resolutions!

I was going to wait before I wrote this, but, I received a call from a customer a couple of days ago and I really wanted to get this out on our page. More women than men are obsessed with one number: their weight!

Weight is an unreliable figure of health and good looks. Take it from a man: most men will barely notice a difference between a woman that weighs 140 lbs and 155 lbs (a 10% difference) with the same body fat percentage. Men are more likely to notice the difference between a woman that weighs 145 lbs but has 30% body fat and 40% body fat. Look it up online, the differences are very impressive. There is another advantage of having increased muscle mass, but I’ll get to that later.

I give one warning: rapid weight-loss with occasional spikes in weight can cause more health problems further down the road than staying overweight. Particularly with your heart and hormone balance issues. Medical doctors recommend a slow & steady approach: 1 lb per week. A slow change in lifestyle is easier to maintain long-term than a rapid one.

This was originally going to be one long post, but after spending several hours writing it (and still not done!) and having written several pages, I’m just going to break it down.

    A) Diet

    The multivitamin –

The analogy I give to most customers is the concept of cheap & expensive: fat is cheap and muscle is expensive. It needs more than calories to keep muscle, but fat, being cheap to keep, only needs calories. Muscle also needs protein, vitamins, and minerals. If you are looking to gain more muscle, you need to take in more than the recommended daily intake (RDI) that you see on the nutritional labels of products. Those numbers were for the average person: relatively sedentary, hardly exercising, etc.

To this end, I first recommend getting in touch with a nutritionist. Many of our stores are blessed with such individuals, but may not always have at least one. But imagine what it means to eat really healthy, and a lot of it. And not just the same 3-4 vegetables, try different things. They say to eat vegetables with your eyes: colourful is good. I’m not going to sugar-coat it, it’s not impossible, but it does tend to get very expensive. If you don’t have that kind of luxury, and I assure you, I don’t, I would then recommend a multivitamin or a greens supplement. If you don’t eat much fish, flax oils, or other essential fatty acid (EFA) rich foods, I would definitely include an EFA supplement in with your multivitamin. Some brands of multivitamins will have EFAs included (look for Omega-3′s… 6 & 9 are also essential but not as important).

The multivitamin closes the gaps in your diet to what your body needs.

    Calorie counting –

I have a couple of issues with people who religiously count their calories: please count it accurately (some of my friends constantly round up to the nearest 100 calories: e.g. 40 calories in black coffee become 100 calories) and people who eat a lot of the same kind of food. As to the earlier point, you want to diversify what you eat to get all the nutrients that you need. Eating a bran muffin for breakfast and a plain bagel for lunch; snack on only cucumbers as their source of vegetables.

Calorie restriction has its benefits and down-sides. It is the easiest way, whether direct (eat less) or indirect (eat the same but exercise much more) to lose weight. But I know the human body, if you starve yourself of calories for too long, your body goes into “survival mode”. Back to the analogy of cheap & expensive. If you starve yourself for too long, you will also notice your muscle mass decreasing much more than your body fat. Both will lead to greater weight loss, but the closer you get to your goals, you won’t have that ideal body-fat percentage. You’ll still be pinching that small layer of fat that’s hiding your abs.

*** Everyone has abs. The important question is: how much fat is sitting on top of them?***

Lots of diets suggest different calorie restrictions. One of the most extreme caloric restrictions I’ve seen is in the HCG diet: 500-calories a day! Eating 500 calories a day will result in weight-loss in anyone. The HCG drops mimic the effects of the pregnancy hormone of the same name. It’s been found that pregnant women will break down their body fat for extra calories so that their unborn child is “well fed”.

You can find HCG drops in our store (made by Sunforce), but you may need to call ahead. We sold out 2 hours after receiving our last shipment! We’re waiting on another order, though.

There are other diets out there, but I really want to emphasize one more: the Japanese Diet (I don’t know if that’s the official name of it, but that’s what I call it). It’s very simple to follow: eat with your eyes (diversify what you eat!) and eat when you’re hungry, take your time eating, but STOP EATING when you’re NOT HUNGRY. If you eat until you’re full, you’ve eaten too much!

I bring up the Japanese Diet because, across all countries, Japan has the highest percentage of men & women living into their 100′s than any other country! And these centenarians have very few disabilities compared to their North American counterparts. You also might want to consider that 70 years ago, it was not a good time to be in Japan, and yet these people are living into their 100′s!

The science behind it is quite complicated, but more specific to weight-loss, it’s not that bad. By eating whenever you’re a little hungry, you trick your body into thinking that you don’t need body fat! You’ll just eat whenever your body needs calories. If you eat too much, those extra calories will always just get stored as fat.

There’s no calorie counting here; you just listen to your body’s needs and answer quickly. If you don’t answer soon enough, your body is just going to do it’s own thing to survive.

Doubly interestingly, this diet, over a long period of time, actually changes the way your cells age and build up toxins. There’s an interesting product, made by AOR, called benaGene. It’s a supplement, when taken, tricks your body (and cells that make it up) that you are living that lifestyle. If that’s true, you are less prone to getting all those age-related diseases. According to AOR, it also improves insulin sensitivity and your metabolism.

As a bonus, the calorie requirement for your body actually depends on your weight. There’s this celebrity that weighs about 194 lbs and is 6’4”. Between his exercise routine and his muscle mass, he has to consume 12,000 calories a day to maintain his muscle mass! Sound familiar? He’s Michael Phelps. When I mentioned that your daily recommended intake of nutrients (and calories) actually increase with increased muscle mass, he is one of the classic examples.

    B) The Plateau!

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the 80% mark of your weight-loss goals, but you’re still not satisfied with your results. Almost everyone, at one point or another, ends up here. This is where I want to re-emphasize people with weight-goals vs. body-fat goals. If your goal was to just lose body fat while retaining muscle, you may feel that you are much closer to your goals. There is nothing wrong with changing your original goals: focus on body-fat reduction instead of weight-loss. This may mean you might actually GAIN WEIGHT! But as long as it’s lean muscle mass, isn’t that okay?

Still pinching that little bit of fat where your abs should be? Yeah. I’m guilty of that too.

Think you’re doing everything right, but still not making any more progress? When it comes to most people’s last little bit of fat, it has to do more than with diet & exercise.

HORMONES and the vicious cycles they live by!!!!

Hormones are largely fat soluble. Generally, you want to have ideal levels, but, if you have too much of any hormone, they get stored away in your fat cells. If you exercise really hard, you burn some fat cells, releasing the store hormones back into your system. If you don’t get rid of those excess hormones, your body is going to make more fat cells to tuck them away.

It’s like sweeping the mess under the rug. Except in this case, the rug is your body fat, and you don’t want the rug anymore.

Two hormones are of particular importance that follow this cycle: estrogen and cortisol. I’m just going to touch on estrogen a little bit: it largely gets metabolized by the liver. If you drink too much alcohol, don’t support your liver with great extracts like milk thistle, your body may have a hard time to get rid of all that extra estrogen. There are other things you can do to minimize the build-up of estrogens as well. The internet is a great way to find those things out.

A side note on too much estrogen: it’s been linked with adult-onset acne. A friend of mine has it, and she told me that the dermatologist quickly pointed out the baby-fine hairs on her face. It’s supposedly a classic sign of excess estrogen. A couple of popular products that we carry to help with fat-loss and acne are Estrosense and Estrosmart. That’s why they often get marketed with those claims!

More universal to both men & women is cortisol. Cortisol is the stress-hormone. There are many ways to reduce stress, including having increased muscle mass, exercise, etc.. The only sure-fire way to eliminate the cortisol hormone is by getting quality sleep. The issue largely being that most people that are really stressed out, have a hard time sleeping. We carry a number of sleeping aids, like melatonin, L-theanine, and herbal extracts, but one of our most powerful sleeping aids is made by AOR: Ortho-Sleep. It has all of those ingredients to help you fall and stay asleep. They give a lot of cautions, however, so pretty much if you have any liver or kidney issues, or on any medication, do not take it.

I have an experiment I would like you to try: if you are in that plateau-phase where you work out, feel like you’ve lost fat, but the next day no matter how well you ate, it feels like it’s right back, just TRY TO SLEEP TOO MUCH. I’m talking in excess of 8 hours. Try it for a week, and see how you look and feel. If you feel that you’re finally making some progress again, you were a victim of the vicious cortisol cycle.

There is another benefit of having extra sleep: growth hormone is produced only while sleeping. Growth hormone is responsible for the maintenance of muscle (and other growth-related issues). An interesting note, according to an article I read a long time ago (source unknown/forgotten), Shaquille O’Neal slept about 12 hours a day when he was a kid. That’s a lot of growth hormone!

    Coming up soon: Starting a new diet and other considerations. {It’s still a long work-in-progress!}

Great Diet TIP: Did you know if you go to Custard Hut, or the ice cream place of your choice, and you don’t finish your ice cream… Leave a bite. (You’ll see, it’s worth it!) The remaining ice cream creates a vortex that pulls all the calories out of the ice cream you did eat? I did it tonight and I am GUILT FREE!

Good Monday Morning…. Okay I know-I know most of us dislike Mondays but instead of looking at it a an end to our weekend, lets look at it as the beginning of new possibilities :-)

Okay so here is something I hear often “HCG is a crash diet…its a fad”. Now while I will agree that it limits your calorie intake etc, this program DOES NOT deprive you of the nutrition!

Here’s another one “I hear you put on back the weight after the diet.” Now with any program (even surgery) persons who go back to the way they were (eating habits & lack of physical activity) prior to the program/procedure will go back to their original weight-maybe even increase it.

While the HCG program is only for a few weeks (and I don’t expect anyone will continue beyond the specified period) there are somethings we can do subsequently. For instance reducing our sugar intake (replacing drinks&juices with water) cooking without butter, reducing the oil (use of olive oil as an alternative) eating in smaller portions, reducing the number and quantity of carbohydrates (starch) you consume-so no more rice & mash potatoes with fry chicken and the likes. And don’t forget to get physical even if it just a 20 minute walk around your neighbourhood.

    Hello Hello my beautiful ppl.

Di likkl rain last night was nice eeh? cud sleep widout fan. And some of you prolly took advantage of the weather and its effect *clears throat & move on*

Now many people (including myself at one point) wonder; how can I make delicious dishes on this diet given the strict rules? However there are multiple ways to cook our meals using natural herbs & spices that will make for sumptuous cuisine.

    For instant: Savory Chicken Soup
    100 grams chicken breast cubed
1-2 cups chopped celery or tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth (or substitute 1 cup water for 1 cup of broth)
    1 tablespoon minced onion
2 cloves garlic crushed and sliced
    1 bay leaf
½ teaspoon organic poultry spice blend
    Cayenne pepper to taste
Salt and black pepper to taste

Bring chicken stock to a boil. Add onion, garlic and spices. Add chicken and vegetables and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes or more until chicken and cabbage are tender and fully cooked. Serve hot. Sprinkle with chives or parsley if desired. Makes 1 serving (1 protein, 1 vegetable)

It’s been a good day for the weight loss, but I did breakdown and have a drink….or 3.

Week 5, day 3, round 3 of my methotrexate…. I hate day three…day three is when I start feeling the effects of the chemo… by Friday my mouth will begin to swell, by Saturday I won’t even be human, buy Monday my mouth and tongue will be covered in ulcers/sores, buy Friday I’ll begin to heal…and before I get my weekend of being human before I go into round 4 of my chemo I will be robbed of it because of the holiday this week that is causing me to end my chemo round on Saturday instead of Friday.

But it will all be worth it if my lab draws today show even the most minute drop in my hcg today….

    Please drop.

    Prayers please.

I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks in February. a few weeks ago I found out I was pregnant again. my doctor has been keeping a close eye on me and checking my HGC levels frequently. I am now 7 weeks pregnant. my HGC levels have gone down from last Wednesday being over 40, 000 to Monday being 35, 000.. is this the start of another miscarriage. I haven’t had bleeding but have had some really bad cramping..

We’re seeing a lot of before/after weight loss pics, who has lost weight instead of gaining with Hashi’s/hypo? It can go both ways for both Graves’ and Hashi’s!

I’m sure I am going to step on some toes when I post this ….but oh well…What I’m about to post will be the truth…..There are many shakes, diet pills, drinks and whatever else out there that claim you lose weight….Well I hate to burst your bubble but most of them are complete Garbage…..It is true if you do the HCG DIET you will lose weight , but i assure you its not the magical lil drops you put under your tongue for 300.00 for a months supply that does it…..It is the 500 calorie for 2 week diet that they put you on……The HCG for all you know could be cow urine strained thru a dirty sock…..
Any shakes on the market become a meal replacement….NOTHING MORE! There is truth to that , but there is no wonderful drug in the shake that makes you drop pds…..The common denominator is low grain and lean high protein., vegetables and fruits to as minimum………
You DO NOT gain weight from eating vegetables, fruits, or protein…..YOu gain weight from grains, Complex carbs , breads, potatoes, pasta, cookies, crackers, snacks, rice…..and SWEETS!!
What ever happen to good hard work? Seriously? A good exercise plan, a good diet and BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS is how you get there!!!! I love all these people that want the quick easy fix….It doesn’t happen! How many of you know someone who has taken the drug Phentermine…Yes it is true you will lose weight as it is (crack in a capsule) but i’ll bet they put all the weight back on!! THey always do for the most part….. I guess what I’m trying to say is WAKE UP! Alot of our health issues come from our nations food supply, make better choices, stay away from the Fast foods, and quit being so LAZY!!!! You know who you are!!!!
I have studied this for over 17 years I get results with My clients if they listen!! Hard work is a big part of it…..Common sense is the other….Dont be fooled by all these QUICK FIXES!!!! If you have any questions i’ll be glad to answer them, rebhit Me with an email….
In closing there are NO quick fixes!!! Just cause you can workout in 15 min hard and be done for the day doesn’t mean you will lose a pound unless you have the one two punch of a sensible diet and exercise program, there are no shakes, gimmicks, or drinks , that magically make you lose weight!!!!!!

Member Question: have disc degeneration & a herniated disc, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel, bursitis, asthma, etc, plus I’m overweight. I’m doing aquatic therapy & it seems to be making me worse. How on earth can I lose weight?

“hormones are like viagra for cancer cells”

I know we are all desperate to lose weight. Please don’t buy into the hcg diet! I have a friend that didn’t know she had cancer cells in her body and she started the hcg diet…and talk about more of a scare then is worth the desperation to lose weight.
